Here are a couple of sociology media resources that might be of interest: the Sociology Spotlight and the United Nations webcast.

iPhone & iPad

For those of you with iPhones and iPads here’s a free app: Sociology Spotlight By Wiley Publishing. I can’t check it out myself as I don’t have either (I’m an Androider!), but it seems to have some useful features, including:

• Latest information on key Sociology conferences
• Frommer’s travel guide to major conference locations
• Latest abstracts for Sociology articles and books
• Follow your favourite publications
• Latest news in and around the discipline from Sociology Lens
• Latest Special Issues, including free articles

Languages: sorry, seems to be only in English.

There seems to be no Android app – darn it!

United Nations Webcast:

The United Nations Webcast posts regular videos on global issues, discussions of United Nations policy development and General Assembly meetings. I recommend the latest panel on sexual exploitation, abuse and human trafficking in post-conflict situations, which is in response to the upcoming film The Whistleblower. The film highlights sexual crimes involving United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Bosnia-Herzegovina. You can also watch short reports on topical matters, such as Egyptian youth social protest via social media. You can also download pdf transcripts of the webcasts. They also have a great YouTube Channel and Facebook page. In mid-September, I watched as UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon answered live questions from the public via various social media.

Languages: mostly English, some General Assembly Meetings in other languages.
